NAV FOR NEWBS is a 6 week introductory adventure running program for adults.

 

The focus of this program is to have participants learn and implement the basics of navigation, providing all of the introductory skills needed to take part in an adventure run (Raids or some solo adventure races).

 

NAV FOR NEWBS will begin January 19th and will start with introducing the basics of map reading and navigation and will, over 6 weeks, provide the building blocks for participants to confidently take part in an end of season race

NEW FOR 2025** We have added a intermediate course for those that completed the NFN program or have taken a beginners course previously. This is less of a course, compared to NFN, and more of an opportunity to practice some more intermediate level maps. Participants will run individually or at times with a partner and complete a map based on a specific theme for the week. This course does include the Snowdrift race and the DGL Sprint Weekend.

Week 1: Introducing the map & map features. Map orientation 

Week 2: Introducing the compass, map folding techniques and route choice

Week 3: SNOWDRIFT RACE (Included in price)

Week 4: Contours and knowing what's important on the map

Week 5: Getting unlost 

Week 6: What's next; race preparation

​MARCH 29/30 DGL SPRINT WEEKEND (RACE FEE INCLUDED IN PRICE)

Each session will be 2-3 hours and will be hosted by a number of guest leaders with extensive knowledge related to adventure running and the sport of orienteering.

 

Sessions will take place on Sunday mornings at 10am and will have some discussion on the weeks topic prior to running a course. Pre-session notes will be sent out a week prior to the Sunday session to allow participants to understand the weeks topic.

CANCELLATION POLICY

In the event a registered participant is unable to participate in Nav for Newbs

• up to one week before season start we will refund 95% of the registration fee

• from one week before start and the season start we will refund 50% of the registration fee

After the season start, no refund will be provided.
